Denmark is a country of hundreds islands. The border of Germany and Denmark is actually in the Baltic Sea. In order to navigate these waters, at some point, the train must get on a ferry boat, which means the passengers have to get off the train while the train is loading onto the ferry. The passengers transition to the ferry, too. I am not sure of the exact process of transferring to and from the ferry. All I know is that our luggage will be secure on the train, and that all the passengers must temporarily get off the train.
I was so happy to get off the train because of the heat and lack of water. My first mission is to get water in my bottle. A crew member fills my bottle with water. I taste it… It is horrible! I exam the water, and there are strange particles swimming in my bottle. I decide to deal with this situation later. Now, I miss go up on the deck to see the Baltic Sea. It is beautiful. We will be on the ferry boat about 30 minutes and then head back on the train. I take some pictures, buI I am so thirsty. I am very much in need of safe drinking water. I inquired from another attendant about the safety of the water that the crew member put in my bottle. The man said that it was not safe for me to drink., so I dumped it out.
..
While I was on a mission for safe water from the boat, a Danish announcement was made for all the passengers to leave the ferry boat and return to the train. I asked a man with the broom to show me where to disembark. He apparently does not understand English and sends me in the wrong direction. I head down the stairs and I’m desperately trying to find a passage that leads to the train. I cannot read the Danish signs. I find a door that opens. It leads to the section of the the ferry where the cars are
stored. I go down more stairs to another door. It leads to a garage full of cars stored on the ferry, also.
Where is the train? Where are the people? I run back up the stairs of the huge ferry boat and look for help. I see a man that works on the boat. Does he speak English? I am in desperation. "Please, can you help me? Where is the train?" We both ran down the stairs to find the train. I am so thirsty. He stops on the stairs, listens, and then tells me that the train is leaving. I’m in the stairwell. I cannot see the train…
All I know is that I am on a ferry in the middle of the Baltic Sea and that my suitcases are on the train headed to Copenhagen without me. At this point, I can’t believe it. What could I do?
I need water desperately. I asked for water again. The man tells me there is no time for water… I must run to the next
train station...many, many meters away…And if I am fast enough, I might be able to catch the train. "Where is the next station?" A man tells me to go straight. I ask again, "where is the next station, what does it look like?" ..."Just go straight!," he said. I ran like crazy in search for the train that had my suitcases.
