My last night in Germany was spent in Hamburg. It is an amazing city, and I truly would have enjoyed more time there. In order to maximize my time in Hamburg, I had a late night and an early morning… So I was a bit low on sleep, when I was leaving Germany.
My train to Denmark is full, I have an assigned seat, and I must navigate through the train cars with my suitcases, amongst all the passengers with their luggage. It was over 90°F, and there was no air conditioning. With all the people in close quarters, I was very warm, as I managed to find my seat but not space for my large suitcase. So, I placed my large suitcase on the next train car. No problem. I secured a place for it and returned to my seat, which was grouped together with three other passengers. My new train neighbors were from Sweden and Germany. We will be traveling together for the next five hours, so we would get quite acquainted. Then, the train doors closed, and we headed to Denmark. After traveling a distance, the train attendant asked us for our tickets and passports. My new neighbors show their paperwork…no problem for them! However when the attendant looks at my ticket, he said his machine could not read the barcode and in this case, my ticket was not valid. Oh what a pity. He asked me for an email confirmation of my ticket, but I had no Wi-Fi. My neighbors were watching this dilemma unfold. Eventually I was given a hotspot, accessed my email and found my confirmation that I received when I purchased my ticket 3 months ago. All was well again, except I was so thirsty from the heat, close quarters, and ticket issue. I was happy to know that I would be able to fill my water bottle when we crossed into Denmark from Germany.
Trying to get my ticket resolved on the train!
