I need water desperately. I discover a vending machine on the train has drinks. I’m so happy I go to put euros in the machine.… But wait… It is asking for $24 for a small bottle of water… Oh, it takes Danish currency. I do not have this currency. I must wait another hour and a half to get water.
My train companions and I continue sharing stories on the train. I was now feeling sick from the heat and the lack of water. No air conditioning. Oh, how I want to get off the train. What’s happening? The train stops...what now? We wait in the heat. We wait more. An announcement is made in Danish, then it is made in German. I ask for an explanation. What is happening?
“There is a fire!”
The train is crowded. Where is the fire? We did not know. Another announcement is made. The Danish conductor makes a strange translation in German… And says, “the firemen will put a little bit of water on the fire.”
The German lady in my cabin laughs at this translation. It doesn’t make much sense.
I need water!
The train is stopped. Another announcement:
“there is a fire on the tracks due to the heat. We cannot proceed until the area is cleared.”
Oh how I need water. We arrive at the station nearly an hour delayed .
I must search for water and my new host.
