The Treasure Hunt

Yesterday, I had to find my way back to my host's house from my current location. I walked about five hours around very many interesting streets, visiting some highlights of the cultural city of Cologne, and now I did not know the way back. To complicate matters I only had 10% battery on my cell phone and no charger with me. Please note, I only had access to the Internet when I was near Wi-Fi. I needed to reach my host's house in only one hour and 30 minutes, for my host and I were traveling to a birthday party. How would I find the way, I must be resourceful. So here is how I made it back.

1. Before my phone battery died, I located a restaurant that 

had Wi-Fi.

2. I found someone who speaks English that can gave me the password for Wi-Fi.

3.  I memorized the address of my host that was in my phone. 

4. I downloaded the city map of Cologne on an app called "maps.me."

5. I began to head in the general direction of my destination. Ut oh...my phone died.

6. I started walking through the city with the masses of people.

7. I was not sure that I was going the right way, so I asked someone, "do you speak English?" Over and over, the people I asked said, "nein."

8. Finally, I found someone who stated that he speaks a little English. I gave him the address. He tells me to go to Neumarkt.  Where is this place, I wonder. He points at the direction that I needed to go.  I navigated through the 

crowds, protecting my pockets.

9. I wonder if I have passed Neumarkt. I must ask again another stranger.

10. "Go straight until you come to the Neumarkt, in about 500 m.

11. I continued, the next person says something like Rudelplatz. 

12. I am not sure what is "Rudelplatz." I must ask again. I meet someone else I say, "how far to Rudelplatz?" 

"You must go 2000 meters." I wonder how far 2000 m is but realize later that is over a mile

13. I continue straight… The road ends in a church.

14. A few more blocks down, I ask again someone who knows a little English. She tells me I must go to the right then straight then left then straight.

15. I eventually find Rudelplatz...I think!

16. My time is running short… I asked someone else the way, "Do you speak English?"

"Nein!"again and again I heard "nein," then I asked a man on a bicycle. He gets off his bicycle and shows me the way. For 

this I am grateful yes, I navigated Cologne  and found my destination just like a treasure hunt!
